President Adama Barrow deserves credit for taking the concerns of Gambians seriously and making the restoration of reliable electricity an urgent priority. The improved situation is encouraging, even as work continues to strengthen generation capacity and prevent a recurrence.
Most Gambians also deserve recognition for the patience and restraint they showed during the disruptions. People were understandably frustrated, but the overwhelming majority remained peaceful while expecting solutions.
As December 5 approaches, Gambians will judge leadership not only by the challenges that arise, but by how quickly and effectively those challenges are addressed.
