H.E. Adama Barrow
President of The Republic of The Gambia & Secretary General, NPP
His Excellency Adama Barrow is the President of The Republic of The Gambia and Secretary General of the National People's Party (NPP). Born on 16 February 1965 in Mankamang Kunda, Upper River Region, President Barrow rose from humble beginnings to lead one of Africa's most celebrated democratic transitions.
A successful businessman before entering politics, President Barrow served as treasurer of the United Democratic Party before emerging as the coalition candidate in the historic 2016 presidential election. His victory ended 22 years of authoritarian rule and ushered in a new era of democracy, human rights, and development for The Gambia.
Re-elected in December 2021 with 53% of the national vote under his own party — the NPP — President Barrow has focused his administration on infrastructure development, education reform, healthcare expansion, and economic diversification. Under his leadership, The Gambia has seen the construction of the Trans-Gambia Bridge, major road networks, new schools and hospitals, and renewed international engagement.
President Barrow founded the National People's Party on 31 December 2019, building it into the dominant political force in Gambian politics. Today, the NPP leads an eight-party coalition and holds the majority in the National Assembly, reflecting the broad national confidence in President Barrow's vision for The Gambia.

Delivering on Promises
Democratic Transition
Led the first peaceful democratic transition in Gambian history in 2017.
Infrastructure Revolution
Commissioned the Trans-Gambia Bridge and over 850km of new roads.
Education for All
Built 45 new schools and increased enrollment to record levels nationwide.
Healthcare Expansion
Built 12 new health facilities and launched free healthcare for children under five.
National Unity
