About NPP
Founded in 2019, the National People's Party stands for peace, progress, and unity in The Gambia.
The Birth of
a Party
The National People's Party was founded in 2019 by President Adama Barrow, marking a new chapter in The Gambia's democratic journey. Born out of the historic coalition that ended over two decades of authoritarian rule, the NPP emerged as a party dedicated to consolidating democracy, fostering national unity, and driving sustainable development.
"The NPP was established to provide a lasting political home for the millions of Gambians who yearned for democratic governance, transparency, and inclusive progress."
President Barrow, who first came to power as the coalition candidate in the landmark 2016 presidential election, built the NPP as a response to the aspirations of a new generation of Gambians committed to building a better future for all.
Since its formation, the NPP has grown into The Gambia's largest political party, with a presence in every region and constituency — truly reflecting the diversity and unity of The Gambian people.
