GOVERNMENT ACTS ON POWER, ECONOMY AND PUBLIC SAFETY

September 11, 2026

Government continues to respond on several fronts as efforts intensify to address the electricity crisis and maintain stability.

Security chiefs met Thursday and agreed on a joint operation involving the Police, Armed Forces, Immigration and Prisons services to protect lives, property and critical infrastructure, while respecting the rights and safety of citizens.

Meanwhile, work continues on an additional 24MW of generation capacity at Brikama, expected by the end of October, alongside plans for a 50MW solar plant in Soma.

On the economy, The Gambia has secured a $100 million BADEA trade-finance facility to help businesses finance imports and maintain supplies of essential goods.

The focus now is delivery, stability and keeping the country moving forward.
