Peace at Home, Leadership Abroad

It was another active weekend for President Adama Barrow, with developments that highlighted The Gambia’s leadership both at home and across the region.

President Barrow travelled to Sierra Leone to participate in the ECOWAS Summit, where West African leaders discussed peace, security, democratic governance, economic cooperation, and regional integration. His participation reaffirmed The Gambia’s commitment to working with its neighbours to strengthen peace and advance the shared interests of the sub-region.

Over the weekend, President Barrow also received former Senegalese President Macky Sall, who is seeking regional support for his candidacy for the position of United Nations Secretary-General. He was accompanied by former Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embaló. Their discussions reflected The Gambia’s continued engagement with regional leaders and its growing role in continental and international affairs.

At home, the Government issued a statement on the Bulock border incident, reaffirming its commitment to resolving the matter through dialogue and established diplomatic and security channels. While emphasizing The Gambia’s sovereignty, the Government also stressed the importance of preserving the longstanding friendship and cooperation between The Gambia and Senegal.

On the political front, the National People’s Party continued its engagement with supporters through community and neighbourhood activities over the weekend, reinforcing its message of peace, unity, and development as preparations continue for the December elections.

The developments of the past few days tell a consistent story.

Whether strengthening regional cooperation, promoting diplomacy, protecting national interests, or engaging directly with communities, President Barrow’s leadership continues to focus on maintaining peace, building partnerships, and delivering progress for the Gambian people.
