NEW GENERATORS ARRIVE TO BOOST POWER SUPPLY

October 6, 2026

There was welcome news on the electricity front yesterday as two brand-new generators arrived in The Gambia, adding a combined 21 megawatts to the country’s generation capacity.

Vice President Muhammed B.S. Jallow received the two 10.5MW units at Banjul Port. They will be installed at the Brikama Power Station, with commissioning expected by the end of October. A third generator will follow.

President Barrow is to be commended for keeping his promise to bring in additional generation capacity to strengthen the country’s electricity supply. After the power difficulties of recent months, the arrival of these generators turns that commitment into concrete action.

The priority now is getting them up and running and delivering more reliable electricity to Gambian homes and businesses.
