KIANG KABADA ROADS: WHEN MISINFORMATION FAILS, THE TRUTH PREVAILS

October 26, 2026

The latest fact-check by QTV Gambia exposes a disturbing attempt to mislead Gambians about one of the country’s significant infrastructure achievements.

A photograph of a deteriorated road, falsely presented as part of the newly completed Kiang Kabada Roads Project, has been circulating on social media. QTV’s investigation found similar images linked to locations in India, raising serious doubts about the photograph’s supposed Gambian origin.

This is precisely the kind of misinformation that poisons public debate.

At a time when Gambians can see and experience improvements in road infrastructure, circulating misleading photographs risks creating a false impression of projects that deserve to be judged on their actual condition.

The Kiang Kabada Roads Project is real. The approximately 92.8-kilometre network in the Lower River Region was inaugurated by President Adama Barrow on October 24, 2026. It represents a substantial investment in connecting communities, improving mobility and opening economic opportunities.

Political opposition is legitimate. Deliberate deception is not.

Those seeking to discredit the government’s development record should present credible evidence, not misleading photographs. Gambians deserve an honest debate about the country’s progress, challenges and future.

We commend QTV Gambia for investigating the image and bringing its findings to public attention. Responsible journalism remains an important defence against misinformation, regardless of its political origins.

The identity and motives of whoever first circulated the photograph still deserve scrutiny. But the lesson is already clear: a misleading image cannot erase a completed road.

You can manipulate a photograph. You cannot manipulate the reality of 92.8 kilometres of roads on the ground.
